Modeling and Simulation of Single Phase Grounding Fault in MV Ship Grid

Single-phase grounding fault frequently occurs in the MV ship grid, which is likely to become a serious short-circuit fault and threatens the system operation safety. In order to fully understand the kind of fault, a zero-sequence equivalent network model is given based on the actual medium voltage marine power system. The distribution of zero-sequence current in single-phase-grounding fault is analyzed and expressed with vector diagram, including the amplitude and phase characteristics of zero sequence current on fault line and non-fault line. Finally, the dynamic simulation model is established in MATLAB to validate the analysis and conclusions, which provides a foundation for the protection method of single-phase ground fault relay.
