Dynamic positioning capability analysis is significant for the design of DP system of ship and offshore platform. Base on the results of the capability analysis, the optimized designing scheme of thrusters can be obtained. In this paper, DP capability analysis is performed for a semi-submersible vessel. The extreme sea state, which the thrusters are able to endure, and the thruster utilization are calculated in every environment direction. The positioning capability of two thruster layout schemes is studied.
