The Challenge for Twin-shaft Slant Design Applied to LNGC

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard has successfully developed the new generation of 174000m3 DFDE propulsion LNG carriers. Many frontier technologies, including twin-shaft slant design, short bow bulb, ultra-low revolution speed, full gas running mode etc., have applied to this vessel. Twin-shaft slant design, which means each shaft has a slight bevel to centerline, has an effect on stern flow field and reduction of the propulsion power. After investigation and analysis, we deem that twin-shaft slant design can further achieve advanced ship performance. It brings obvious benefits and also many challenges for propulsion system design and installation.
