At present, the exhaust pipe of the diesel engine onboard is too long, too many elbow bends and too much pipeline fittings resistance. In this paper, a one-dimensional model based on FLOWMASTER is set up to verify if the pressure drop can comply with the exhaust back pressure design requirement of the engine and to check the reliability of FLOWMASTER in simulating exhaust system of engine. Calculation results are compared between traditional ones based on empirical coefficient and the modeling simulated ones based on FLOWMASTER. It comes to the conclusion that the exhaust back pressure of the main engine decreases and the outlet temperature of exhaust pipe drops slightly if the pipe diameter increases, and the exhaust back pressure rises if the roughness of pipe internal face increases. When the deflection angle of bend remains unchanged, the ratio of bending radius increases, and the pipe bend diameter pressure loss decreases firstly and then increases. When the ratio of bending radius and pipe diameter remains unchanged, the deflection angle of bend increases and pressure loss increases. According to the simulation results and the conclusions, the model is feasible and the designed exhaust system is optimized. The research will be of great reference for the design of exhaust system of engine in the future.
