The hull lines of a PC6 or 1A super class bulk carrier is developed. Two types of bow design are compared. They have the similar speed performance in open water, but their performance in ice and displacement are different. Propeller diameter is chosen bigger and the aft draft of LIWL is designed deeper to get better efficiency in ice. Brash ice test, level ice test and speed test are done for the final design. The minimum power for 1A super from the test prediction is around 35% of the predicted value. Speed performance in open water also shows good wave pattern, low resistance and high propulsion efficiency.
