More and more passenger ships are shifting from transport to tourism and the market of domestic seagoing tourism ship is growing rapidly. This kind of tourism ship is not only different from the existing cruise ships for international voyages, but also different from the ordinary passenger ships. Therefore, it is necessary to study and evaluate the safety standards for these ships. Based on the method of risk assessment, this paper focuses on the effective control of the possible risks that occurs in ensuring the functional requirements of regional tourism ships, and proposes some appropriate standard suggestions. The present situation and subsequent development demand of regional tourism ships are investigated through site survey, symposium and written survey. Its functional requirements, passenger characteristics and navigation area are analyzed, and the major risks which are different from the ordinary passenger ships are identified. Every special risk are studied and evaluated separately, then the control measures for each risk are proposed and the suggestions for the safety standard of regional tourism ship are put forward.
