Scientific winches are the essential part of multipurpose research vessels and the configuration of the scientific winch becomes more complicated along with the increase of the displacement and missions of the research vessels. This paper introduces the classification and the use of the scientific winch, compares the winch system configurations between the foreign and domestic research vessels, and discusses the development trend of the winch system for the future multipurpose research vessels.
