There are two types of lashing pattern in GL rules (2013) on-deck stowage, the internal and the external lashing. Based on the latest relevant DNVGL rules (2016), the benefit of external lashing is not as good as that of the Rules of 2013. The maximum stack weight for external lashing is similar to the internal lashing. In this paper, we will analyze the main reason for decreasing the stack weigh of external lashing pattern to give suggestions for choosing the most efficient lashing pattern for ultra large container vessel.
