This paper presents the application of a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) program to ship drift motion problems. Reynolds stress transport model is selected to model turbulence based on Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations. Ship model is a scaled KRISO Very Large Crude Carrier 2 (KVLCC2) without appendages. The first part of this study involves grid sensitivity study based on static resistance case. The second part refers to a series of drift test, in which the drift force and flow field are analyzed and compared with existing experimental data.
KEY WORDS: CFD; ship drift force; drift test; KVLCC2
