Fatigue crack propagation behavior under superimposed stress histories containing different frequency components appearing intermittently was highlighted in this study. Fatigue crack propagation test under superimposed stress history containing different frequency components appearing intermittently was performed. Validity of the numerical simulation method to estimate the fatigue crack propagation history by one of authors was confirmed by comparing numerical simulation results of fatigue crack growth history with experimental ones. In addition, the case studies of fatigue crack propagation behavior under some different superimposed stress histories containing different frequency components appearing intermittently was performed by the numerical simulation mentioned above. The effect of superimposed stress appearing period was discussed and the importance of loading sequence for the fatigue crack propagation was confirmed.

KEY WORDS: fatigue; superimposed stress; intermittent superimposed stress; numerical simulation of fatigue crack propagation; effective stress history for fatigue crack propagation
