The growing degree of connectivity and reliance on digital components and the increased level of autonomous control on ships pose cyber security challenges. At the same time, hackers, hacktivists, disgruntled employees and many other potential attackers have a higher chance of exploiting software-dependent weaknesses due to the broader access to headquarters and vessels data. Following a systematic approach to increasing cyber security resilience makes cyber security a manageable task. This paper focuses on the cyber security vulnerabilities in the marine industry and provides Lloyds RegisterĄ¯s risk-based approach to identifying and responding to cyber threats.
