ABS developed a fully nonlinear analysis procedure for container securing systems to support the container shipping industry as the use of fully-and semi-automatic twist-locks becomes wide-spread, and the increase of container ship sizes, stack heights and stowage weights. The nonlinear procedure accounts for the nonlinearities induced by the twist-lock clearance, accommodate external, internal and mixed lashings, and more accurately predicts container stack responses. The application of the nonlinear procedure to actual container stacks reveals important container stack response characteristics that the traditional analysis approaches cannot fully predict.
