The hydroelastic forces and total elastic deformation of a ship are computed by using the 3D time-domain Green function method combined with the modal superposition method, and the normal velocity on the body surface due to elastic deformation is computed from the mode functions obtained by the beam approximation for a ship. The reliability of this calculation method is confirmed through comparison among several other calculation methods. For the zero speed case, validation is performed through comparison with computed results by the 3D frequency-domain Green function method. For the forward speed case, validation is performed through comparison with computed results by the frequency-domain Rankine panel method.
KEY WORDS: ship hydroelasticity; time-domain green function method; forward-speed effect; modal superposition method
