This study investigates the characteristics of stern slamming pressure, such as occurrence mechanism, generating condition, and space-time distribution and clarifies some key parameters of stern slamming pressure in following irregular wave conditions. Water entry tests were conducted, and numerical analyses were also performed using a particle-based method to examine strongly nonlinear interactions during stern slamming events. Tests on following irregular waves were conducted to identify the characteristics of the key parameters of stern slamming pressure such as a local deadrise angle on the hull surface, a relative vertical velocity and a relative following wave velocity.
