The objective of full-scale measurement system is to offer a feedback on the ship’s powering performance during an operation or a period in the ship’s life. Economical operation with optimized routing is also possible with the use of a ship performance measurement. In this paper, the results of onboard measurements and analysis of powering performance for several vessels including a dry cargo ship and a container ship operating in international sea route are presented. Ship position, speed over ground, speed through the water, shaft torque and rpm, rudder angle, ship heading, draft at the fore and after perpendiculars are measured to calculate the powering performance. In addition, wind speed and direction, and water depth are measured. The operational data measured and the weather data obtained from the public weather service are combined to perform the powering performance analysis of the operating ship. The issues related with the measurement method, quality and accuracy of measured data, and filtering criteria of the measured signal will be discussed. Powering performance of the ship is analyzed based on resistance calculation and power correction method of ISO15016:2015. Analysis results are compared with model test results to investigate the effects hull fouling and in-service degradation of ship’s performance.
